ST. STEPHENS, Ala. -- The mud will fly at at the park's second 4-wheeler/ATV ride of 2014 on Saturday.
Jean Parnell, the park's director, said people will "come in by the droves on Friday" to pre-register.
Registration will wrap up Saturday morning. The cost is per 4-wheeler and for each additional person. All proceeds go to St. Stephens Park which has faced large cuts in state funding in the last several years.
Parnell said the rides started about two years ago. The ride in March attracted more than 400 riders.
The ride will take you along the park's horse trails and recently created ATV trails. The biggest part of the ride is in a quarry adjacent to the park.
"It's an all limestone bottom, so you're not going to get in a mud hole and sink out of sight," Parnell said. "When it is wet, it is as slick as a mirror."
If you don't have a 4-wheeler or ATV to ride, you can still watch the action. The quarry is about a mile walk from the main park. But Parnell warns it can get pretty muddy so you may not want to get too close to the action.
Parnell reminds everyone to dress comfortable, bring plenty of water, and no glass containers are allowed in the park.
